2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata: The Original Sports Car
The Mazda Miata is currently in its fourth generation, which has been in production since 2016. Even though the automaker hasn’t released much information on the new 2024 model, we’re expecting much of the performance, technology, and driver convenience features to remain the same. And while there’s speculation about a fifth-generation redesign in the Miata’s future, there’s been no word whether it’ll happen for the 2024 or 2025 model year. One thing is for sure, though, and that’s the Mazda Miata’s exceptional performance, which we cover in this guide.
2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Overview
Mazda hasn’t released any official information on the upcoming 2024 Miata MX-5, but speculation suggests its 2023 design, equipment, and features will carry over to the new model year. Currently, there are three MX-5 Miata trims available: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. All trims equip the Mazda front midship 16-valve SKYACTIV-G 2.0 DOHC four-cylinder engine that pairs with a SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter. The Grand Touring also has a six-speed automatic transmission available.
Other standard features include LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights, cruise control, push-button start, and keyless entry. Standard interior appointments keep you comfortable with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, shifter knob, and parking brake handle, and the Club and Grand Touring step up the comfort with heated seats featuring three adjustable settings.
The Sport comes standard with a six-speaker audio system with driver’s side headrest speakers, while the Club and Grand Touring upgrade to a Bose nine-speaker audio system with a subwoofer, AudioPilot, and added passenger’s side headrest speakers. All trims are Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capable, and every trim features steering-wheel-mounted phone, audio, and cruise controls for safer driving.
2024 Mazda Miata Performance Features
The Miata is a light and nimble sports car with plenty of performance features to deliver a driving experience like no other. Based on the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata, drivers are likely to see the same high-performance equipment in the 2024 model year. Step behind the wheel and immerse yourself in the Miata’s exhilarating performance.
Drivetrain
If the MX-5 Miata carries over the same equipment from 2023, you can expect Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2-liter four-cylinder engine, which is capable of generating about 181 horsepower and 151 ft-lb of torque. While all trims feature a six-speed manual transmission, the Grand Touring features the optional six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This rear-wheel-drive sports car also features a torque-sensing limited differential system on the Club and Grand Touring.
Suspension System
The Miata features a four-wheel independent suspension system on the base Sport and Grand Touring with the automatic transmission and a sport-tuned four-wheel independent system on the Club and Grand Touring with the manual transmission. The front suspension comprises a double wishbone system with aluminum control arms and monotube dampers. The Club and Grand Touring (with manual transmission) step up to Bilstein dampers. All trims equip a multilink rear suspension system with aluminum bearing support and monotube dampers
Fuel Economy
The Miata carries an 11.89-gallon fuel tank. To boost the vehicle’s fuel economy and performance, a higher octane rating of 91 is the most optimal fuel rating to use. The Miata also delivers on fuel efficiency with an EPA-estimated rating of 25 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Drivers who opt for the Grand Touring can see their highway fuel economy creep up to 35 mpg with the automatic transmission, making this sports car both efficient and fun to drive.
What Is the 0 to 60 Time of the Mazda Miata?
Each generation of the Miata has its perks, with varying speeds for the quarter-mile. The most current MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF can go from zero to 60 mph in about 6.4 seconds. Braking is smooth with Mazda’s four-wheel 11-inch vented front disc brakes with single-piston calipers and 11-inch solid disc rear brakes. All trims feature four-wheel, four-channel electronic brake force distribution and brake assist technology for added security when coming to sudden stops. Based on several road tests, the Miata’s braking system is sound with the ability to brake from 60 mph within 113 feet.
Innovative Technology for Safety and Security
Travel with peace of mind knowing the Mazda’s performance also extends to its safety and security technologies. When you step inside the MX-5 Miata, you’ll find innovative safety and security features you can be confident in.
Driver-Assistance Technology
All Miata trims equip dual front and side impact air bags with side impact door beams. A blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert ensures you can see the road from all angles. Other driver-assistance technology includes a lane departure warning system, kinematic posture control, and a traffic sign recognition system that comes standard on the Grand Touring.
Safety You Can Count On
The Miata also equips Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support system on all trims, giving you better braking control when driving in tight traffic. A rearview monitor gives you even more perspective when backing out of parking spaces. Each trim also comes standard with a tire pressure monitoring system that alerts you when it’s time to refill.
Security Features That Protect Your Car
Keep your car secure no matter where you travel with the Miata’s vehicle immobilizer that shuts off the engine in the event of theft. Mazda also provides protection plans to keep your vehicle running safely. With available manufacturer’s warranties, prepaid maintenance plans, and auto protection plans, you can have added peace of mind knowing your car is covered should you need repairs or parts replacements.
