The most noticeable difference is size. The Mazda CX-5 is bigger than the CX-30 by a large margin. To illustrate this point, let’s go to the cargo bay. In the back of the CX-5, there’s 30.9 cu-ft of space. Fold the rear seats down, and there’s 59.6 cu-ft of space. The CX-30 has 20.2 cu-ft and 45.2 cu-ft of cargo space, respectively. The CX-5 also has some features that the CX-30 doesn’t, such as the standard 10.25-inch touchscreen.
The CX-30 is smaller than the CX-5, but that comes with two immediate advantages: lower price and higher fuel economy. At every trim level and both drivetrains, the CX-30 gets better mpg than the CX-5. Speaking of powertrains, the CX-30 has closed the gap on the CX-5, with the addition of the CX-30 Turbo. Like the CX-5, the CX-30 now has access to a 2.5L turbo-four that produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
