The 2021 Mazda3 is the newest iteration of the 2020 World Car Design of the Year winner. With numerous accolades like that under its belt, the new Mazda3 three has a lot to live up to. So then…does it?
Here’s our in-depth examination of the 2021 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, from what’s under the hood to in-cabin tech to safety features. Take a look.
The performance specs are a lot different from prior years. The 2021 Mazda3 has three different available engines: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, and a 2.5-liter turbo-four. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder is only available on the base model 2021 Mazda3 Sedan 2.0. It produces 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. The next step up is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder. It’s present on most Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback models, pumping out 186 horses and 186 lb-ft of torque. However, the showstopper is the newly added 2.5-liter turbo-four. With premium fuel, it produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
The Mazda3 2.0 is technically the base trim for the Sedan line. It has an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, HD radio, Bluetooth capability, two USB ports, and push button start. The next step up for the Mazda3 Sedan, the Select trim, matches the base model Mazda3 Hatchback. Both add Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, and proximity keyless entry to the list of features inherited from the 2.0.
Every 2021 Mazda3 model, including the Sedan 2.0, has the iActivsense safety suite. Included in that package are forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, stop-and-go-cruise control, auto high-beam headlights, a driver condition monitor, rain-sensing wipers, and a rearview camera. The base model Mazda3 Hatchback also gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.
