Enjoy a Relaxing Spring Brunch at These 5 Spots in the Los Angeles Area
With so many fabulous places to enjoy brunch in the Los Angeles area, how do you choose just one? You don’t — you visit as many of them as you can. We have compiled a list of five eateries that provide both usual and unusual staples for a late-morning feast. Get ready to fuel up and drink up at these restaurants on beautiful spring weekends. Hopefully, you’ll find a relaxing brunch spot ideal for celebrating Easter with your loved ones this April.
Redbird
Nothing says Los Angeles like a dining venue that doubles as a filming location. Redbird is a downtown treasure reconstructed from a 19th-century Roman Catholic cathedral rectory. Its retractable ceiling and charming architectural decor provide phenomenal eye candy for visitors. Chef Neal Fraser and his team offer duck confit chilaquiles on their scrumptious brunch menu. The Mexican-inspired dish features avocado, mole, and a fried egg. The short rib hash is a customer favorite with soft egg, zucchini, and peppers.
Another Redbird favorite is the shrimp and grits entree with pickled peppers, charred tomato sofrito, and a soft egg. For lighter bites, try the salted caramel cinnamon roll, crumb bun, or pumpkin-spiced French toast. No brunch is complete without a cocktail. Be sure to indulge in a mimosa, bloody Mary, or yuzu spritz. Go for the creative fare and stay for the upscale atmosphere.
Location: 114 E. Second St., Los Angeles.
Brunch Hours: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Little Dom’s
This Los Feliz restaurant is a neighborhood classic known for its hearty Italian American dishes. The brunch spread is no exception. The most popular brunch offering at Little Dom’s is a fluffy stack of ricotta cheese and blueberry pancakes. Covered in real maple syrup and butter, these pancakes are delectable. Coming in at a close second is the breakfast pizza. Imagine a large flatbread topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, a sunny-side-up egg, and slices of salt-cured speck. Sound yummy?
How about scrambled eggs bruschetta on grilled ciabatta with roasted tomatoes and basil pesto? Be sure to check out the hangar steak and eggs with a fennel pollen hollandaise sauce on sourdough toast. These are awesome creations from New Orleans native Chef Brandon Boudet, who fuses their Italian heritage into their cooking. Co-owner Warner Ebbink is the master behind the laid-back feel of the vintage décor on display throughout the restaurant. The outdoor seating is the perfect setting for your weekend brunch when the weather is fine.
Location: 2128 Hillhurst Ave., Los Angeles.
Brunch Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Atrium
Another relaxing Los Feliz brunch spot You’ll love is Atrium. One of their in-demand menu items is the Atrium Benedict. Your egg is served on an English muffin topped with ham, hollandaise sauce, and Aleppo pepper flakes, and a side of breakfast potatoes accompanied the dish. Parties of two or more often order a platter of raw oysters on the half shell. Other favorites include the chicken tinga bowl, smoked salmon tartine, and soft scrambled eggs with truffle butter.
Local diners refer to the location as a hidden gem because its entrance is tucked behind a wooden door. Take advantage of the trendy outdoor alley seating with a padded bench and brick wall backdrop, or enjoy your brunch with family and friends inside among the beautiful lighting and greenery. The interior ambience is a nod to the name of the restaurant. Grab a glass of sparkling wine or another spirit from their extensive cocktail list.
Location: 1816 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles.
Brunch Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Damian
Located in the Los Angeles art district, Damian is a premier brunch eatery that specializes in Mexican cuisine. The menu is influenced by produce grown in California and other local ingredients. Like Redbird, chilaquiles are an available option. If you like spice, Damian prepares their chilaquiles with fish and spicy red salsa. Another seafood choice is the scallop aguachile made with coconut. You can also choose from several pastries, such as the blue corn concha or a kouigin amann with cajeta, a caramel sauce.
Don’t forget to request one of the signature brunch cocktails overseen by beverage manager Jun Kwon. “Daydream” is a watermelon selection made with Aperol and mezcal. “The Smoked Highball” is a Japanese whiskey libation made with a tea-infused pine liqueur. Damian is part of an international culinary collective called Casamata. It is spearheaded by the restaurant’s owner, world-renowned chef Enrique Olvera.
Location: 2132 E. Seventh Place, Los Angeles.
Brunch Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Post & Beam
The final relaxing spring brunch spot on our list is the 2022 James Beard semi-finalist Post & Beam. This Baldwin Hills restaurant marries southern comfort food with innovative California concoctions. Would you like Gulf shrimp with your grits or fried oysters? How about fried catfish to go with them? Make room for a braised oxtail hash, roasted peppers and onions, poached eggs with mustard hollandaise sauce, and country potatoes. You can’t go wrong with chicken and waffles or the pecan pie French toast. You probably want to rush over there right now.
In true California fashion, vegan and vegetarian dishes are also available. Many customers enjoy Post & Beam’s vegan crab cakes, buttermilk biscuits, egg whites, and kale salad with roasted squash. Refresh your palette between dishes with bottomless cranberry-pineapple mimosas. Owners John and Roni Cleveland added Chef Martin Draluck, formerly of Hatchet Hall, to their team in 2021. Chef Draluck has been featured on Netflix’s “High on the Hog” for his culinary expertise.
Location: 3767 Santa Rosalia Drive, Los Angeles.
